How to Stay Cool at Disney World: 10 Top Tips for Beating the Heat

Walt Disney World Resort is the ultimate destination for an unforgettable summer vacation. With its thrilling attractions, stunning nightly fireworks, delicious snacks, top-notch resorts, and warm Florida sunshine,  it’s hard to beat. But there’s one thing that might catch you off guard: the heat!

Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a Disney pro, the heat at Walt Disney World can be intense. But don’t let that stop you from enjoying all the magic. You’re in the right place if you’re concerned about staying comfortable in the summer sun. I’ve gathered my top tips on how to stay cool at Disney World so you can focus on the fun and even save some money along the way (summer months can be less expensive than the holiday season.)

10 Tips for How to Stay Cool at Disney World

1. Stay Hydrated: Bring a Refillable Water Bottle.

Keeping hydrated is key on those hot Florida days. Be sure to pack a refillable water bottle to carry with you in the parks. You can easily find bottle-filling stations or grab a free cup of iced water at quick-service locations to refresh you throughout the day.

2.  Cooling Towels and Stroller Fans are Lifesavers

Don’t underestimate the power of a cooling towel! These handy accessories are a must-pack item for any Disney trip. For the little ones, consider a stroller fan to keep them cool and happy as you explore the parks.

3. Indulge in the Classics: Dole Whip & Mickey Bars

Nothing says Disney like a refreshing Dole Whip! This iconic treat is the perfect way to cool down while satisfying your sweet tooth. Don’t forget to place a mobile order for a Dole Whip at Aloha Isle and enjoy it in the cool, dark comfort of Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room.

And don’t miss out on trying a classic Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar—we eat one for everyday of our trip.

Where can I find Mickey Bars?  Pick up your Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar at any of the many ice cream/snack kiosks that are located throughout the four theme parks, two water parks, and even in the refrigerated snack section at the shop in your Walt Disney World Resort hotel. Kiosks that sell these sweet treats have easy-to-see signs with photos of them; the items that are included on the Disney Dining Plan are noted by a little purple and white “DDP” symbol you’ll see right next to the item’s photo and description.

Where can I order Dole Whip?  If you’re craving the famous pineapple Dole Whip, head to Aloha Isle in Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland. Located next to The Enchanted Tiki Room and the Magic Carpets of Aladdin, Aloha Isle offers the classic pineapple Dole Whip, a refreshing pineapple Dole Whip Float, and the delightful pineapple-vanilla swirl.

For more Dole Whip flavors, venture to the other side of Adventureland near the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse and Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen. Here at Sunshine Tree Terrace you’ll find options like orange, strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla Dole Whip, along with specialty treats like the I Lava You Float and the Orange Bird Float, both featuring orange Dole Whip.

You can also indulge in Dole Whip at Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Tamu Tamu Refreshments in the Africa section. Over at Typhoon Lagoon, visit the Snack Shack for unique Dole Whip flavors like strawberry or green matcha tea.

4.  Take a Break with Indoor Attractions

One of the best tips on how to stay cool at Disney World is to take advantage of the indoor attractions the parks are famous for. At Magic Kingdom, you can escape the heat with a visit to Pirates of the Caribbean or enjoy a relaxing cruise on “it’s a small world.” For a longer break, Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress offers a 22-minute journey through time, showcasing Disney’s iconic Audio-Animatronics. At EPCOT, cool off while riding through history on Spaceship Earth or dive into the underwater world with The Seas with Nemo & Friends. At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you can beat the heat with the quirky humor of Muppet*Vision 3D or take a spin on Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. Over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, find shade in the lush greenery of Pandora – The World of Avatar, or take a peaceful float down the Na’vi River Journey.

5.  Splash Around at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon

A visit to Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is a must if you’re looking for how to stay cool at Disney World while enjoying some water-filled fun. This tropical-themed water park offers a refreshing escape from the Florida heat.   For a leisurely experience, grab an inner tube and float along Castaway Creek, a lazy river that winds through lush landscapes, cool caves, and misty waterfalls. The gentle current will carry you around the park.

If you’re seeking a bit more excitement, take a dip in the Surf Pool, one of the largest wave pools in the world, where you can ride the gentle swells or brave the larger waves for some added thrill. For families with little ones, there’s Ketchakiddee Creek, a play area designed just for kids, featuring mini slides, splash pads, and squirting fountains that provide endless entertainment.

And don’t forget the signature attractions like Crush ‘n’ Gusher, a water coaster that sends you racing down winding chutes, or Humunga Kowabunga, where adrenaline seekers can plunge down a steep slide for an exhilarating drop.

6.  Cool Down with Water Rides and Splash Pads

Water rides offer a fun and refreshing way to beat the heat.  At Magic Kingdom, don’t miss Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, where a thrilling drop culminates in a cooling splashdown that’s sure to leave you grinning and you’re kids screaming. Over at EPCOT, embark on Frozen Ever After for a chilly journey through the enchanting world of Arendelle—perfect for escaping the midday sun.

While Disney’s Hollywood Studios may not have water rides, Animal Kingdom more than compensates with the exhilarating Kali River Rapids. Brace yourself for a wild ride through the jungle as you twist, turn, and plunge into water—getting soaked is all part of the fun!

For families with little ones, the splash pads at EPCOT and Magic Kingdom provide the perfect spot for a playful cool-down, letting the kids burn off energy while staying refreshed. These water experiences are a must for how to stay cool at Disney World while enjoying the magic of the parks.

7.  Midday Break at Your Disney Resort

During the peak heat of the day, it’s a great idea to head back to your Disney Resort hotel for a well-deserved break. Take a refreshing dip in your resort’s themed pool and recharge before heading back to the parks for an evening filled with magic. Selecting the right resort can really enhance your experience—if Magic Kingdom is your main focus, staying on the monorail loop offers unbeatable convenience for quick returns to your room.

8.  Enjoy an Indoor Quick Service Lunch

Finding a cool, comfortable spot to enjoy a meal can truly enhance your Disney park experience, especially when the Florida heat kicks in. One of my clients recently mentioned how much time she spent searching for an air-conditioned, quick sit-down option at EPCOT, so to save you from the same struggle, I’ve put together a list of my favorite spots across the parks. Planning ahead can make all the difference!

Magic Kingdom Park: Columbia Harbor House is my family’s go-to spot. It’s perfect when you’re craving something more substantial than a burger. The Trio Platter is a great option for sharing, helping you save a bit of money.  Plenty of indoor seating makes it an excellent place to take a break and enjoy a fast and hearty meal.  This beat the heat itinerary for Magic Kingdom includes a mid-day meal at Columbia Harbour House.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios:  If you’re in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo is a must-visit. The immersive theming makes you feel like you’re dining right on the planet of Batuu. The food is unique, and the indoor seating provides a refreshing escape from the heat.

EPCOT:  When you need a hearty meal and a cool place to sit, Regal Eagle Smokehouse is the spot. This indoor location not only offers mouthwatering barbecue but also a much-needed respite from the Florida sun.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park: Satu’li Canteen in Pandora is your best bet for a satisfying meal and a cool, comfortable place to eat. The theming is beautiful, and the food is a step above typical quick-service fare, making it a favorite for many Disney visitors.

9.  Explore Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana at EPCOT

Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, offers a fun way to cool off while learning about the water cycle. The shaded trail, mist, and interactive water features make this a great spot to take a break from the heat, with plenty of opportunities for little ones to splash and play.

My daughter enjoyed it so much that she wanted to revisit later in the day. It’s definitely a highlight for both kids and adults looking for how to stay cool at disney world while having a great time!
